Résumé
The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between psychological factors and homosexuality in male patients with personality disorders. The subjects were divided into borderline (BPD, n = 61) and nonborderline (n = 60) groups, and into homosexual BPD (n = 10) and heterosexual BPD (n = 51) groups, using the Revised Diagnostic Interview for Borderlines. Psychological factors were measured by a semistructured interview for childhood trauma and by the Parental Bonding Index (PBI). There was a significantly higher rate of homosexuality in borderline than in nonborderline personality disordered men. The homosexual subjects with BPD, as compared to the heterosexual BPD subjects, had significantly higher rates of childhood sexual abuse and also reported decreased maternal affection, as well as increased maternal and paternal control on the PBI. The psychological factors in homosexuals with BPD were similar to those described in community samples with respect to parental bonding but not for sexual abuse
