Neue Werkstoffentwicklungen für moderne Hochleistungskraftwerke
New material developments for modern high-capacity power plants
The first industrial use of X10CrMoVNb9-1 (T/P91) with the implicit possibilities to increase plant efficiency has started an active phase of developing new steels for tube and pipe. The modification of T/P91 - basically by addition of tungsten - has led to the steel grades T/P 92 and X 11 CrMoWVNb 9-1-1 (E911) allowing to increase the steam temperature up to 625 °C. However, the limited oxidation resistance of 9 % Cr-steels prevents to make an optimum use of the creep strength potential that these steels exhibit at 650 °C. The paper reports on the development of a new 12% Cr-steel called VM12 which combines the good creep properties of E911 and T/P92 with a sufficiently high oxidation resistance. Starting with a first phase, material optimization was performed on the basis of 7 lab heats. The resulting steel VM12 is characterized by 0.12% C, 11.5% Cr, 0.3% Mo, 1.5% W, 1.5% Co and additions of Si, V, Nb and B. At the current status of development tubes and pipes are available from two industrial heats. Creep testing has reached a duration of 15,000 h. Furthermore fabrication trials (welding, bending) have started. An increase of steam temperature to 625 °C already demands the use of new steels in the area of membrane waterwall panels. Based on 10 CrMo9- 10 (T/P22) the new steel grades T/P 23 and 7 CrMoVTiB10-10 (T/P24) were developed for this application. The main properties of these new Steels are presented. They have already been standardized in ASTM and 7 CrMoVTiB10-10
